[Filmaroid Wednesday] Alyssa

With my recent revisitation of my own 35mm film camera, I have decided to showcase work every Wednesday beyond just Polaroid. Don’t worry though – I’ll still be shooting Polaroid. I’m really loving my new instax pola camera – especially loving the fact I can drive to the store and actually buy film for it. You may recognize this lovely lady from last week’s Polaroid Wednesday. I had been dying to go out on location and shoot so we found a couple great spots in East Austin to capture Alyssa. These were my favorite shots from the color film roll. Such a natural beauty she is!

The crew of Studio Gold - a new production team in the works here in Austin (consisting of myself, Laura Kaululaau and Carlos Seckler) – had the great privilege of working with the incredibly talented hair stylist Shawna Parvin, model Clancy, and clothing designer Amanda Yilmaz this past Sunday. After shooting Amanda’s two other amazing garments inspired by the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter in the studio, we found a couple beautiful locations to shoot the gorgeous Alice dress for the grand finale. We’ve been busy working and collaborating with some talented creatives so stay tuned for more images from other editorial shoots with our dear friend and wardrobe stylist Luis Ramirez.

Ellen Rogers is a London based photographer I recently discovered. Her work is solely analogue. She does not utilize any digital equipment or computer manipulation other than scanning the end result. All of the techniques seen mostly come from experimentation with traditional darkroom processes. So great to see people still using film and being creative with the art of photography in the darkroom.

Here are a couple photos from a recent shoot I did with my girl – the ever so talented make-up artist Laura Kaululaau – for a Pin Up calendar. Lauren is an amazing model and during a smoke break I snapped a couple candid photos of her which turned out to be my favorite from the shoot. We got to borrow a pretty beat up 45′ Caddy and shoot in the middle of an empty field on one of the chilliest days this year (thanks Lauren for being such a trooper!) I did a photo shoot with my friends Krystal & Lenzi tonight. These are a few select shots from it that I am going to be adding to my portfolio. The shoot was for a school project and I shot it in my bedroom and my backyard at my house. The subject was a girl in distress, strained, and lost in the world. Yesterday I had a very successful shoot with some local unofficial, maybe now official, male models. My local super talented “MUA” (make-up artist) Laura Kaulualauu and I experimented with a geek sheik look on the first 2 models Tim and Isaac, while we then played with a editorial dark rock and roll look on Mandeep. While Shok puts his magic touch on a post from our Austin trip this past weekend, I thought I’d drop a little flavor from the ride back. Style Station is a remote vintage store in Waco, TX that we had heard much about in recent months when considering different locations to shop/shoot at for our first couple helloooooo.com photoshoots. Walking up to Style Station is an adventure and the store itself is a work of art, with every nook and cranny jammed with eye-catching pieces from days past — including a ridiculous Yale tank top Shok pulled for me. But perhaps even more interesting than the selection of vintage garb is co-owner Art De Vitalis, who has an opinion on everything from Prescott Bush (“he funded Hitler’s army”) to Google (“Commie bastards”). The first ever HELLOOOOOO.com photoshoot!

How did I ever get so lucky to shoot such beauties? Upon my recent visit to Dallas I was fortunate enough to meet and photograph Bekka and Marisol. Not only are they drop dead ridiculously gorgeous, but these girls are spunky, sexy, charismatic and best of all – can make you laugh. We shot in none other than Shok’s newest find – a vintage salon hair drying chair in practically mint condition.
