I worked on this GQ Magazine shoot a couple years ago and it is definitely up there with my favorites as we flew to DC from New York to get 45 minutes with Obama in his office in the US Senate building. Peggy Sirota’s crew invaded his office with photo equipment and by the time they started shooting, Black-Eyed Peas was blaring from an iPod. Obama was groovin, Peggy was shooting, and everyone was smiling. Everyone may not agree on US politics, but we can all agree that this man looks good.

Nobody Can Fill Kobe’s Shoes

In a shocking turn of events, everyone seems to be on Kobe’s you-know-what these days. First, The New York Times publishes an article claiming Kobe has been rival-less his entire career; Then, Shaq goes on the record by tweeting “I want kobe bryant to get number four, spread da word”; Even Mr. President himself goes on the record picking the Lakers, in six. But of course leave it to a journeyman nerd from Guadeloupe (where?) to make waves by deciding to ditch his Kobe sneaks in favor of Jordans. You know what Mickael Pietrus, good — you didn’t deserve to wear them anyways. Ironically, Kobe will be rivaling MJ’s legacy while dropping dimes on some ugly dude wearing #23′s kicks. The NBA — where “in your eye” happens.

Believe it or not we are one pesky day away from a new President. Eight years later, I am kinda getting a little nostalgic about seeing Bush go. OK, not really, but like they say, even a broken clock works twice a day. Sitting here today and reflecting on Bush, an interesting question popped up in my little brain: Where in the hell is Dick Cheney? Debates aside, what does this guy do anyways? I forgot the United States even had a Vice President. I swear. Knowing this pervert, he’s probably off eating babies somewhere but surely that doesn’t excuse him from giving his country a little shoutout every once in a while. What a Dick-head…

This Obama guy is all over the place, and is even now gonna grace the pages of comics…Spider-Man to be exact. According to this BBCNews article, “The story is set on 20 January in Washington DC, where Spiderman’s alter-ego, photographer Peter Parker, is covering Inauguration Day. When an imposter turns up, Spider-Man leaps into action, greeting Mr Obama with the words: ‘Hiya, prez-elect! Loved ya in the debates.’” What? Anyways, pretty bad-ass of him and shows the kind of love and support that W never garnered. Go America!

Ahhhhh, vacation. Traveling to a foreign country is all about learning new cultures, tasting new foods, meeting new folks from all walks of life, buying cool souvenirs (read: crap) you can’t find in the States…and of course, catching up on lots and lots of world news. I meant lots and lots and lots. Not because you are so interested in knowing what is going on back home; rather, because CNN and BBCNews happen to be the only channel in English, so deal with it. After watching these two channels pretty much non-stop for the past 11 days, I believe I could become quite the successful international news programmer. Don’t believe me? With another eventful year under our belts, the Boston Globe‘s “The Big Picture” has put together 120 amazing photographs that try to sum up what life has been like all over the world (and some beyond) for the last 12 months. I chose the above picture to lead this story, because if there is one thing ‘the doc’ is excited for it’s a new year with a new leader.
