Since seeing him perform on a random Saturday at Fallout Lounge earlier in the year, I had been obsessed with his music, act, outfit — anything and all things NEILIYO. When it came down to having my Dallas —> LA going away party, there was only one mother-effer I wanted there to send me out in style  – yes, Neiliyo. So last week we made it out to the HOYOTOHO Videopera Release Party which had a great turnout. It was the first time in years I think I drank Vodka as thats all they had and I wont lie I liked it. As you will see below in the video these guys poured their heart and soul into every song. I really have to give mad love to Tim K. who put the video together and Calvin Bradley the lead singer as these guys really pulled off a stellar show. The Flaming Lips @ NX35 this year were amazing — I’ve never seen them live but their performance was one of the best I’ve ever seen, and the crowd was intense. On Sunday we went back to Denton for the end of the NX35 weekend. We saw the 8-track museum, a rooftop hip-hop show, and enjoyed some free pizza. We ended the night at Rubber Gloves where we saw Neon Indian, Ishi, French Horn Rebellion and others.

What a weekend, here comes SXSW!!!

Black Van is the speedball new duo of Kris Menace & KoweSix of DFA Records. An eminent label, one I have trusted for a decade or so. I’ve been jamming for the past few days, also throwing it into my most recent DJ sets. You can definitely feel the true, aggressive production that Menace throws into the track. You should snatch it up on vinyl…. as I plan to myself.

I’ve never seen a hip hop performance by anyone before, but holy hell is it an experience. Recording artist COMMON performed with DJ IRIE at Ghostbar for the 944 Magazine NBA Allstar After-party on Sunday.  I was lucky enough to get a press pass to cover the event, and it was nothing short of amazing.  The rhythm of the room (not to mention obscene amount of basketball players, celebrities, and people) was something I haven’t seen since Mickey Avalon played at Ghostbar late last year.  Common has always been a pick of mine when it comes to hip hop, his musical genius is unique and has the power to make you move and smile, it was definitely the highlight of the night.  Check out the rest of the photos from the night HERE.

When I think about this week’s’ The ISH’ with STEVE AOKI & SCHWASSANOVA, one phrase comes to mind: drunkenly mesmerizing!  The entire bar was littered with waiters and waitresses serving free food and alcohol — all of course wearing Samsung gear — not to mention Samsung lights and logos everywhere!  They had people even standing around so you could try out the new phones!  SCHWASSANOVA killed it from 9 – midnight-ish, then STEVE AOKI came on with a fury.  I’ve never seen that many people dancing and screaming their asses off right in front of me!  The electricity in the room was fire, and it quickly spread as not a soul in the room wasn’t moving.  Even Audrina Patridge from The Hills on MTV and Billy Zane were in attendance, not to mention many others!  Aoki’s performance and presentation were without a doubt the best ISH to date, he crowd surfed, jumped from speakers and even littered young beautiful faces with bottle after bottle of champaign!  Hands down one of the best dance parties of the year, and it came so late but was so worth it! LAST BUT NOT LEAST, GOTTA GIVE MAJOR LOVE TO THE MAN BEHIND THE WHOLE EVENT — THE ONE AND ONLY WADE AKA WISHFM FOR PULLING OFF THE PARTY OF THE YEAR AND SOLIDIFYING THE LEGEND OF ‘THE ISH’!!!

Found this video from HEALTH on my friend Tommie’s sick blog, NYEXCUSE.COM. I can’t wait to see HEALTH at FunFunFun Fest in Austin in a few weeks.

Last night in Denton was crazy good.  A lot of Dallas people made it out to Hailey’s for the Dallas vs. Denton DJ showdown.  Dallas triumphantly destroyed Denton.  After the show we headed down the street from Hailey’s to an afterparty that lasted all night.  I forgot the name of the band that was playing but they were dressed up in blood and masks and had a violinist which was badass.  Check out the rest of the shots from last night HERE

The ISh on Wednesday was one of the best yet! RICHARD BLAKE & JUSTIN BELL tore up Ghostbar! Even after the disappointing loss last night I decided to go out and see what the night had to offer, starting at The Lounge to see VEGA.  Alan who is the lead singer was dancing the night away on stage from the get-go and got the crowd started. To their credit, they put on an energetic show and with time for sure they will only get better. I headed to Kenichi after where Hoyotoho was spinning a set for some girls birthday. Not too shabby to say the least bit. With that said, hopefully the Lakers will take care of business on Sunday and finish off the Rockets in LA. I will be headed to Vegas on Sunday and will be in LA for the remainder of next week. As always I will keep you posted on my endeavors. (More pics/video after the jump)

Great lineup of shows this next week at The Granada in Dallas,TX. Tonight: Ladytron and The Faint will be performing – doors open at 7. I saw Ladytron with Dagnushka a few years back in Denton and they absolutely killed it.  On Saturday 4/25 The Kills will be performing but I have heard mixed reviews on their live performances. Last but not least, next Monday Black Kids will be playing and I can almost guarantee every hipster and his mother will be in attendance and drinking PB&R’s. I will probably not make it to all the shows so feel free to post your reviews and comment.
