I was very excited this week when I got an email from Zack and Steven from Redstone Hall about their new album ElePhant they just recently released. I am horrible at classifying music but I would say they have a new wave/classic rock feel that will take you by surprise as many might not expect such talent out of this foursome.  Redstone Hall has played all over the place from almost every venue in LA, to even a show at SXSW in Austin a few years back. When I think about this week’s’ The ISH’ with STEVE AOKI & SCHWASSANOVA, one phrase comes to mind: drunkenly mesmerizing!  The entire bar was littered with waiters and waitresses serving free food and alcohol — all of course wearing Samsung gear — not to mention Samsung lights and logos everywhere!  They had people even standing around so you could try out the new phones!  SCHWASSANOVA killed it from 9 – midnight-ish, then STEVE AOKI came on with a fury.  I’ve never seen that many people dancing and screaming their asses off right in front of me!  The electricity in the room was fire, and it quickly spread as not a soul in the room wasn’t moving.  Even Audrina Patridge from The Hills on MTV and Billy Zane were in attendance, not to mention many others!  Aoki’s performance and presentation were without a doubt the best ISH to date, he crowd surfed, jumped from speakers and even littered young beautiful faces with bottle after bottle of champaign!  Hands down one of the best dance parties of the year, and it came so late but was so worth it! LAST BUT NOT LEAST, GOTTA GIVE MAJOR LOVE TO THE MAN BEHIND THE WHOLE EVENT — THE ONE AND ONLY WADE AKA WISHFM FOR PULLING OFF THE PARTY OF THE YEAR AND SOLIDIFYING THE LEGEND OF ‘THE ISH’!!!

After buying my new Canon 7D on Wednesday I flew out to LA for Thanksgiving weekend. Just before the night got started we stopped by Ralphs and grabbed a bottle of Jack before we headed to Cobras and Matadors which is BYOB. After dinner we hopped into a cab and almost got killed when our cabbie ran a red light while trying to persuade us into going to Tijuana (video below). We ended up at the Tea Room.  DJ Devin Lucien was spinning which was a plus, and the  atmosphere and crowd were half decent. On Sunday I am headed back to Dallas for the week and then flying to Miami on Thursday for Art Basel.

My week in LA started on a Tuesday at Cinespace, I was in LA to do a Spring 2010 Shoot for a Huge company I’ll tell you guys about in the future. One of my favorite places on a Tuesday in L.A. is Cinespace, they have Dim Mak Tuesdays there which is Steve Aoki‘s dance party.

They ended up having bands playing in the back and I caught this group, just two people, one on a synth and another on violin and guitar, it was one of the coolest things I’ve seen in awhile!  I met up with my Friend Ivy Levan, who models in Los Angeles, that night.  Everytime Im there the energy and atmosphere is oh so good!  The Next day I felt it for sure, but breakfast at TART was just the trick to get me going. After an exhausting day on the shoot I headed back to the hotel and changed then headed to Hollywood for Club Moscow @ Boardners.

I was there to visit my friend Keith Wilson who’s the promoter for the club and DJs there all the time, he also acts & models around Los Angeles.  I stayed there until about 1 a.m. and then headed over to this new spot called Bardot over on Vine up From Hollywood Blvd.  From what I heard about it from a few friends I saw at Moscow, it’s the hot spot on Wednesdays in Hollywood, celebrities are spotted there all the time.  It’s dark on the inside, and almost seems like a maze with it’s numerous hallways and low lighting — in other words I loved it.  My sister Natalie met up with me there and the rest of the night was just hectic electricity to say the least.

I got done early around 6 p.m. Thursday with shooting, which was amazing because earlier that day my friends in Neon Indian/Vega flew into L.A. for a show with Crystal Castles at the Siren Studio on Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood. When I got to the venue there was a line around the corner and the venue was already to capacity, 300 people.  Thank god I was on the list!  I walked in and straight into the dressing room to see Ronnie, Jason, Allen, & Leanne.  Crystal Castles shared the same dressing room with them, we basically all hung out and drank until they went on.  Once they started the electricity in the room was like a god damn transformer blew for a 10 block radius around us.  I saw more feet moving and heads swinging then a kiss concert on ecstasy, L.A. showed their dancing addiction that night.  I happen to get a bunch of really good shots of them but after the second song the venue made all of the photographers stop taking photos, too bad I got the ones I wanted!  I also happen to see a hamster cage device holding about 100 running hamsters on stage left, weirdest stage prop ever?!

When Crystal Castles finally took the stage after some quick drinkin’ and last minute shots the room was so noisy you had to literally yell into someone’s ear next to you ear talk.  They had a few strobe lights littered across the stage and drum set, and as soon as the music started the lead singer Alice Glass grabbed one of them near her, jammed it up her shirt, and started screaming the night away.  It was one of the best live shows I’ve seen in awhile, really, the energy was fire.  After the show we all hung out in the dressing room drinking and such until me and my friend Marisol decided we would head to my friends studio’s party going on downtown, Boxeight Studios.  Saosin, Eye Alaska, P.O.S., and InnerPartySystem and a few other bands were kicking off the Pacsun Tour there.  When we got there, the bands had already played but my friend Dirk Mai, a local photographer in L.A. that’s amazing, was still there, along with some of the bands and a huge crowd.  I actually got to take a pic of hang out with some of the guys from Saosin while I was there.  Sonny Moore or ‘Skrillex’, formally of From First To Last was there DJing, he’s currently working on a lot of solo stuff you all should definitely check out!

After Sir Paul McCartney at Cowboys Stadium tonite, Gilberto will be flying home to LA tomorrow for a short weekend with the family and homeys. Got a few items on the agenda, including dinner at the newly re-opened BOA, scoping out the doc’s new pad (complete with housewarming gift), and Friday night I will finally be heading to new Hollywood hangout Playhouse.

Above is the stupid billboard that greets me every damn time I exit the 405 off Santa Monica. I mean, c’mon…who says that?

If you are down with Helloooooo then you are down with VEGA. Alan, Ronnie and Jason hit the West Coast this past weekend for a five-date concert series up the coast. To all my LA peoples, make sure you check ‘em out at The Arena in Hollywood on Tuesday night. Unfortunately Gilberto will be in Los Angeles two days too late as I arrive on Thursday.

Thought I’d give you these pictures in bits and pieces because they are just that good. Dagnushka has gone MIA so I am doing her post. I am headed to LA in a few hours so I thought I would update you now. The Santigold show at the HOB last night was insane. After the show a friend and I went to The Cavern for the official Santigold after party and that was equally as fun.  Some amazing video and photos coming soon from the show, and after party… if I can only find my Sony up-loader cord.

Just got tickets for the Santigold show tonight at The House of Blues Dallas. The doors open at 7pm and the last time I checked there were still tickets available online.  After the show I might head over to The Cavern for the Santigold after party. Tomorrow I am off to LA for the weekend and will be out of commission for a few days. As always I will keep you posted.
