On Monday my good friends NEON INDIAN came back to Dallas, TX to do a show at the Granada Theatre with ISHI. It was quite possibly the best performance by either band I’ve ever seen. There had to of been between three or four hundred kids tightly packed around the famous Granada Theatre stage for both bands. Neon Indian and Ishi’s success can not only be attributed to their great stage presence but to the amazing music that they create. Fizzy Dino Pop also performed at the beginning of the show, I’ve never seen him before but I’d keep my eye out on him, I was definitely impressed, he had the group all fired up for Ishi.

Our crew touched down a night earlier than originally planned to see DJ Marshall Barnes, our boy from LA, throw down with fellow Deckstar’r Steve Aoki at the Metallica Afterparty. Fresh off only a couple hours sleep from spinning at Foxtail the night before, Barnes killed it at the 508 House with Aoki. The small, cozy home at the corner of 8th and Red River made for an intimate setting that felt more like a Bar Mitzvah than a concert — Aoki even body-surfed the crowd to “Hava Negilah!” if I remember correctly…? The duo followed an energy-filled set by Crystal Method, capping off an overall unreal start to a 2+ day debauchery session filled with whiskey, electro music, and of course, the skinniest jeans known to mankind. So as promised we deliver you the freshest electro music from this weekend at ART BASEL 08 Miami. We were lucky enough to check out MSTRKRFT rock a ridiculous 2 hour DJ set at the new lounge Heathrow and we are still feeling the after-effects (physically and psychologically). These 2 DJ’s, a little dirtier and harder than the average DJ duo, put on a high energy, sweat-drenched set at a nicer venue than they are probably used to.  I’ve seen them a number of times in NYC (Studio B, Webster Hall) and they still continue to impress me. The other times that I have seen them they didn’t play any of their original tracks, only remixed other songs. This time we got to hear all of their originals- Easy Love, Street Justice, The Looks – plus some funky remixes including takes on Justice, Crystal Castles, Bloody Beetroots, Surkin, Chromeo, Metric, NORE, and Wolfmother among others.

On a brighter note for the electro frenchmen, they released their long-awaited tour documentary and CD “Across the Universe” this week! Documents over 2 years of concert and touring footage, these guys are serious killers. Check out the preview below and pick up the the CD/DVD, makes a great holiday gift.
