Very exciting news I received today. The Shok family goes Presidential! My cousin Jasmin Shokrian who is an amazing clothing designer out of Los Angeles just did a skirt for the first lady….Go SHOK!

Article Via mrs-o.org

In her ongoing tour of federal agencies, First Lady Mrs. O gave remarks to the Corporation for National and Community Service at the Ronald Regan building in Washington, D.C. this afternoon.

ABC News Blog, Political Punch, has a recap of the event.

Mrs. O told the audience that community service is “the reason that I breathe, ” continuing, “It has become my life’s work in so many ways.”

Mrs. O wore a black camisole and dress full skirt trimmed in bands of white fabric. Mrs. O paired the dress with a cropped cardigan, the same Azzedine Alaia cardigan worn in Prague, and Jimmy Choo kitten heels.

Update: We’ve confirmed that Mrs. O’s striped skirt is indeed the work of Jasmin Shokrian, handmade in her Los Angeles studio for the First Lady (a huge thank you to our tipster). The designer relays: “The fabric is primarily a vintage double silk crepe. The sheer part of the skirt is a band of handmade caught burlap thread encased in silk chiffon and navy silk charmeuse stripes juxtaposed with bands of natural cotton muslin.”

In an email message from Ms. Shokrian this evening, she relayed her delight, ”We are so excited and honored to have Mrs. Obama wearing one of our pieces.”

Jasmin Shokrian was born and raised in Los Angeles. She has ties to the Windy City, where she attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating with a BFA in film, painting and sculpture. Ms. Shokrain went on to found a collective with several other Chicago artists, exploring three-dimensional sculpture, often using a fabric as a medium. These projects organically evolved into the production of clothing and other wearable objects. Ms. Shokrian now runs her own label, with a studio in Los Angeles.

If anyone needs a good dry come on over as the chair still works great and will get your hair dry in no time. Bonus: It also has a great ashtray for your cigarette…light up.

Always one to push the envelope of creativity, Stella McCartney’s magical “Lucky Spot” crystal horse sculpture has been reinstalled in Belsay Castle in the UK. Originally displayed in the castle in 2004, it is back for the Easter holiday. Stella McCartney was inspired to create Lucky Spot following a visit to Belsay. Her response to this beautiful place with its grand medieval castle and mystical quarry garden was to create something magical, romantic and visually stunning. She designed a jewelled curtain of thousands of Swarovski crystals that hung in the shape of a horse from the ceiling in the Castle’s Great Hall. Simply amazing.

Out of ideas for what to do for that special someone on Valentine’s Day? With the traditional Day of Love only two weeks away, why not do something more…Muniz? Vik Muniz to be exact. The artist most famously known for his work with PB&J, spaghetti, sugar, wire, thread, and most importantly, chocolate, has found a way to make this Valentines Day more interesting. His astonishingly creative works — such as a replica of DaVinci’s Mona Lisa using peanut butter and jelly, portraits of sugar plantation workers done with sugar, and images of both Sigmund Freud and The Last Supper made with chocolate — demonstrate how creative one can be with common, household items. So take those tacky red-ribboned chocolates for your lady/man and draw a masterpiece with them! Nothing says I love you like a chocolate portrait :)

So this is late late late…but I just saw this faucet in person for the first time the other day and it is beyond ridiculous. Plus this blog didn’t even exist when Kohler debuted Karbon earlier this year, so I get a pass. The details: Engineered out of, you guessed it, carbon fiber, Karbon is an articulating faucet that basically lets you maneuver it however you like. It can stand straight up, swoop in all the way to the bottom of your sink or even fold down compactly when not in use. The coolest part though is the joystick control on the side that allows you to switch from stream to spray and controls the flow of water as well.
