The weather was idyllic; the photobooth was a-snappin’ away; the whiskey cider was sizzling; the energy was high. All in all, a flawless setting for an amazing evening.

This past Thursday we had the pleasure of having our [HELLOX6 2-Year Anniversary] at V.O.D. in Victory Park with a special trunk show from the oh-so charming (and talented) Magda Berliner and a super-hip and sexy pop up shop from House of MacGregor. Truly was one for the ages.

This year, for our 2-year anniversary, we have (finally!) gotten a chance to team up with the ever-so-charming and always fashionable folks at V.O.D. Boutique to bring you a night filled with handmade crochet and lace dresses (Magda Berliner), custom cocktail fedoras (House of MacGregor), groovy ear candy (DJ Blake Ward), the sickest blog in Dallas (Helloooooo.com, obviously) and a dozen or so dancing circus midgets (we wish). And don’t forget the libations and photobooth!

“The photographs featured in this book tell the story of my search for authentic beauty…Rather than succumb to the perfect, yet ultimately artificial, beauty afforded by image retouching and manipulation, I wanted to bring authenticity back to modern fashion photography. The subject of this photographic project is a collection of 100 women shot at various locations throughout the world. The creative impulse was to reveal the subjective qualities of the models, to give voice and shape to their unique personalities. As my medium, I chose Polaroid film, as it represents an ideal counter-weight to the retouched visual language of our times. Polaroids are a real-time medium; they freeze moments in time as they occur, unmanipulated, unembellished and utterly spontaneous. The analog nature of this medium is almost anachronistic, yet it helps convey a sense of authenticity through the manner in which the image slowly appears and perfectly depicts reality, blemishes and all.”

The crew of Studio Gold - a new production team in the works here in Austin (consisting of myself, Laura Kaululaau and Carlos Seckler) – had the great privilege of working with the incredibly talented hair stylist Shawna Parvin, model Clancy, and clothing designer Amanda Yilmaz this past Sunday. After shooting Amanda’s two other amazing garments inspired by the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter in the studio, we found a couple beautiful locations to shoot the gorgeous Alice dress for the grand finale. We’ve been busy working and collaborating with some talented creatives so stay tuned for more images from other editorial shoots with our dear friend and wardrobe stylist Luis Ramirez.

Ellen Rogers is a London based photographer I recently discovered. Her work is solely analogue. She does not utilize any digital equipment or computer manipulation other than scanning the end result. All of the techniques seen mostly come from experimentation with traditional darkroom processes. So great to see people still using film and being creative with the art of photography in the darkroom.

[ Forty-Five Ten ] Ten Year Anniversary Event

Last night I attended the ten year anniversary event of one of Dallas’ favorite clothing hot spots Forty-Five Ten. The party was really amazing. For one thing they had a secret bottle of Jack Daniels at the back bar so I instantly fell in love with everything. The music was bumping, and the appetizers provided by Cassandra Catering were delicious. We met designers Narciso Rodriguez, and Thakoon, and also ran into our good friend Judy Aldridge who was with her partner in crime from BagSnob. Our intern and our intern’s intern went out to the newly-built Herve Leger boutique in NorthPark last Tuesday for an intimate look at the Spring 2o10 Collections from both Leger and Max Azria. Burkman Bros Tag Team Dallas

Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting the really cool, up-and-coming brothers behind Burkman Bros. Doug and Ben Burkman were at Northpark debuting their latest season of threads for Barney’s Co-Op, which included some new products including hoodies and jersey-lined shorts. The duo was very personable and spent time with patrons and passers-by — Doug even selling me on a lightweight Madras shirt that was so goddamn comfortable I actually wore it to sleep Sunday night (I promise). And with that, I present: ‘Five things you should know about the Burkman Bros!’

They are Canadian
They started out as designers at Gap, Inc.
They are wildly obsessed with Helloooooo.com
The brothers were GQ Magazine’s 2010 ‘Best New Designer in America’ finalists
Their new season of plaid button-downs are not super duper short as in the past

So one of those facts are a lie, but does it really matter now? The dudes make some incredibly comfortable, incredibly masculine clothes that you will actually consider sleeping in (see above).

[ V.O.D. Boutique ] Erin Wasson LowLuv Trunk Sow

I made it over to V.O.D. for the second time in a couple weeks last Thursday night to check out an exclusive trunk show featuring the jewelry of model (and Texas native!) Erin Wasson. Unveiled was her new line, LowLuv, and guests were spotted purchasing pieces and declining bags instead preferring to wear out their spoils. I went ahead and purchased a stunning two-tier chain link necklace for my newly-engaged sister. Finally met store owner (and Helloooooo fan) Jackie, who was busy entertaining guests and glowing with excitement at the turnout.

Sounds were provided by ‘THE ISH’ regular Blake Ward and a friend (below). The party spilled out onto the streets of Victory Park, where bartenders from my favorite restaurant in Dallas, Victor Tango’s, were serving their signature beverage for patrons. (Take a wild guess where we went for dinner after….!)
