One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite duos. Such a classic. Johnny and June were definitely ‘hotter than a pepper sprout’.

As my beloved Lakers celebrated their championship yesterday with a proper parade, I instead chose to bask in the glory of having attended Game 7 with ‘the doc‘ and friends. The entire crowd was on the edge of their seats for 3+ quarters, but somehow, we all knew Kobe & Co. would pull off the victory…. right guys? By faaaaaar the most amazing night of my life; after my briss of course.

Was messing around on HBO and came across a fascinating documentary, ‘Smash His Camera’, about Ron Galella, the original papparazzo. The man is a piece of work with a career that spanned 5 decades. His obsessive treatment of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis resulted in a 150-foot restraining order and several free-speech court cases; he even got several teeth knocked out by the infamously photo-unfriendly Marlon Brando and showed up at the Waldorf-Astoria several years later in a helmet just in case (above). Not known as the best technical photographer, he is rather best known for his subjects and the extreme lengths to which he would go to capture them (“He really is the price tag of the First Amendment,” is how one of the interviewed puts it). Ron Galella: a true photographic pioneer.

Went to Fayetteville, Arkansas a few weeks ago to visit Miss Gilberto‘s younger bro and we decided to grab some cold ones and take the old trip back to simpler times in the Wrangler… at the ‘Wild Wilderness Drive Through Safari‘ (aka the ‘Drive-Thru Zoo’). The result was…..ummm……wild?

In spirit of Coachella this weekend I thought it would only be appropriate to give you an old photo from back home. God I miss California.

2-and-a-half years after Shok tricked me into moving to Dallas over a model-drenched Nick n Sam’s dinner, I am sad to say Gilberto will be moving back to California this coming weekend. It has been an incredible run, filled with Jack-fueled nights, visits to SUITE three times a week, many-a ISH Wednesday, Lakers dominating the lowly Mavs, lots of duck and filet at Bob’s Chop House, SXSW adventures (above, 2008), memorable quotes (“No Way!”), skulls and even more stripes, and a friendship that will carry on in Los Angeles in a few months. This [Archive Tuesday], we look back at Joan Jett and The Runaways — an American all-girl teenage rock band that performed in the 1970s. The band is best known for the songs “Cherry Bomb”, “Queens of Noise”, “Rock n Roll”, “Neon Angels (On the Road to Ruin)”, and “Born to Be Bad.” This Friday, March 19, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning star in a biopic on the band, The Runaways.

As a special promotion, we are going to be giving away prize pack at random to someone who comments on this post! It was all a dream.

Once upon a time (1984) in a Southwestern US city (Dallas) a very famous designer (Phillippe Starck) created a namesake nightclub (Starck Club) that boasted some of the biggest names of the time (Stevie Nicks, Grace Jones, Robert Plant).

By all accounts, Starck Club was the definition of 80′s excess and perversion — it boasted a unisex bathroom, an androgynous cigarette salesperson (Vaal), floor-to-cieling mirrors, tons of hiding spots throughout, and of course the infamous bathroom stalls (complete with your own Sony television!). By the time the club closed in 1989, it had become best known for rampant Ecstasy use than anything else. Twenty-plus years later, the legend continues…

Also, THE ISH‘s very own WISHFM (aka Wade Hampton) and his Sundance-award winning team is currently producing a documentary on the Starck Club (Starck Project) looking to be released sometime in the next year. We can’t wait!
