Sincerely, Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae, one of my favorite new musical discoveries, combines eclectic soulful r&b vocal chords with a bit of theatrical electronica and just a dash of an operatic tone. Aside from her funky sound she maintains an even funkier but simple style reminiscent of the 50′s. She is best known for wearing nothing but crisp white oxfords, black high waisted pants and classic black-and-white saddle shoes. Instant Vinatge accuratey describes her as “the feminine counterpart to Andre 3000 of Outkast” which I couldn’t agree with more.

Her talent and beauty is exactly what I LOVE to find in the music world. You can hear her uniqueness on her debut album, Metropolis: The Chase Suitea conceptual album with a futuristic take on 1927′s silent film Metropolis, by Fritz Lang. P Diddy became so impressed with her that he signed the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter to his Bad Boy record label.

I can’t wait to see what Miss Monae has in store for the future.

Check out her live performance of Sincerely Jane and more of her theatrics on her myspace page.
